DCEU: Ranking the rumored movies in development
By Matt Moore
10. Lobo
An arrogant mercenary turned anti-hero with a fondness for violence. Does Lobo sound like anyone else you know? The success of Deadpool certainly has opened the door for a character like Lobo on the big screen. Inspired by characters like Wolverine and the Punisher, the Main Man was extremely popular in the 1990s and was featured in the animated television series Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League.
In February of this year it was reported that Warner Bros. was keen on the idea of a Lobo film. They wanted director Michael Bay for the project on the condition that the budget could be reduced. A script from Jason Fuchs, a co-writer of Wonder Woman, was said to be in need of revision to accommodate a budget under $200 million.
Lobo would give the DCEU its own version of Deadpool or Wolverine that could become a fan favorite if done the right way. Bay is no stranger to action-adventure movies but work like the Transformers series have been expensive. It’s difficult to see how a movie about an interstellar mercenary who rides a motorcycle across outer space can be done on a small budget.
Within the DCEU, Lobo could of course have run ins with Superman. The personality of Lobo would allow Henry Cavill to show something different with his version of the Man of Steel that has up to this point been steered by director Zack Snyder. A crossover with the Green Lantern Corps. is also a possibility, allowing Lobo to stay off Earth.
