DCEU: Ranking the rumored movies in development
By Matt Moore
9. Deathstroke
Keeping with the trend of villain-focused movies, Deathstroke is the perfect way to build out the DCEU with a character that can cross paths with a host of others. We already know that the assassin exists in the universe thanks to the post-credit scene of Justice League in which his meeting with Lex Luthor teased the Legion of Doom.
Played by actor Joe Manganiello, the supervillain was originally slated to appear in Ben Affleck’s version of The Batman. By all accounts that idea was scrapped once Affleck stepped down and Matt Reeves was given full creative control of the movie. Since then, Manganiello has hinted that a solo Deathstroke film was still a possibility. In October 2017 Warner Bros. began talks with director Gareth Evans to head up the movie. Evans is best known for his work directing The Raid and seemed to be the perfect choice for the martial arts, weapons, and swords expert.
While it would have been thrilling to see Manganiello’s Deathstroke go up against Affleck’s Batman, there are still plenty of ways to incorporate the villain into the DCEU moving foward. After all, he is much more an antagonist to the Teen Titans and Nightwing than Batman or Green Arrow. Further establishing Wilson with a solo movie can flesh out his alliance with Lex Luthor while also building towards a confrontation with Dick Grayson or perhaps the Suicide Squad.
