Out with a trilogy, in with something new. What movie and which hero will Disney use to replace the 2020 slot once occupied by Marvel’s third Guardians of the Galaxy film?

Fans are wondering what Marvel is going to do with the now vacant 2020 slot that belonged to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Everyone has an opinion and theory on how Disney should fix what they broke by firing James Gunn and suspending Guardians 3. We aren’t any different. Here are the movies we’ll like to see.

5. The Eternals

If there’s a movie ideally suited to replace Guardians of the Galaxy it’s The Eternals. Fans of the comics know the connection between the Guardians, Kree, Inhumans, and this superhero group that features a group of god-like intergalactic beings who live on earth. Kevin Feige has confirmed that an Eternals film is already on the slate.

The Eternals would give Marvel a chance to go back in time with a group of heroes that existed long before modern man. There’s a unique story to be told and 2020 is the perfect place for it. In fact, the MCU has already dropped an Easter each for the film with Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.  The Eternals were once Celestials, a group that fans saw introduced in the first Guardian of the Galaxy film.  The story of the Celestials arriving on earth to alter prehistoric humans creating what would be known as Deviants and their good guy rivals the Eternals.

The Eternals opted to protect humans from the evil, Deviants forming a league of heroes to do so. The hatred stemmed from Eternals leader, Kronos, who did not want to become a conquerer but Uranos a Deviant did. A civil war happened and Uranos and the Deviants were banned from Earth. The Deviants tired to return to earth before being stopped by a Kree ship. This, of course, promoted Kree to perform experiments on Earth thus the Inhumans were born.

The overall idea of a story featuring a group of extraordinary beings that influenced earth is great. The film already has Firpo cousins Matthew and Ryan working on the script. All they need is a director and cast to fast track production for 2019 just in time for a 2020 release date. It’s easier said than done and there are other films a little further ahead in pre-production that makes sense.
