If the DCEU plans on going younger with Superman, Aaron Taylor Johnson is the guy. He’s 28 with a resume that proves he is capable of taking on any role. His claim to fame was in the 2010 hit, Kick-Ass. Johnson plays the socially awkward teenager, Dave who inspires to be a real-life hero, despite not having any superpowers or hand-to-hand combat training. So, he buys a bunch of stuff and hits the streets as his superhero persona, Kick-Ass. Johnson also played a hero in the MCU, Quicksilver or at least a variation of the X-Men character.

As Superman, Johnson is shorter than some would like at 5’11, but he can play someone intimidating. If you want to see him at his best acting wise, check him out in Nocturnal Animals. Despite the presence of the great Jake Gyllenhaal Johnson stole the show as the sadistic murdering sociopath Ray Marus.

In Godzilla, Johnson shined as Lieutenant Ford in a role that lends itself to Man of Steel Clark Kent. As previously mentioned, Kick-Ass proved he’s capable of playing a light-hearted character so it wouldn’t matter what version of Clark Kent Walter Hamada wants Johnson can do it.
