12. Hit – Professor X

The excellent casting of Patrick Stewart as Professor X ripped straight from the comics. Equally as impressive was James McAvoy in the soft reboot. Both actors were amazing as Charles Xavier and it showed when the two were in the same movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Stewart days of playing Professor X ended with Logan.

Professor X’s growth was fantastic to watch. He was written as a confident almost pompous genius into a man with an ideology that warranted peace and togetherness. We watched him preserver and become the Professor X of the comics. Unfortunately, James McAvoy’s time as Professor X could come to an end with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. We hope the latter isn’t true and we get to see McAvoy in future X-Men films.

11. Miss – Cyclops

This wasn’t by any means the fault of James Madsen. No, the blame goes on the writers who thought pushing Wolverine to the forefront and killing off Cyclops was the right move. Moreover, the movies had an opportunity to rewrite the bland Boy Scout version of hero by making more compelling. We’re not saying they should have totally rewritten Cyclops, but there could have been more effort in making him interesting.

Luckily, Cyclops lives on in the image of Ty Sheridan. This version of the X-Men leader seems to lend itself to a more interesting version. We’ll have to wait and see what Dark Phoenix has in store for us. Still, no matter what it is, it’ll be better than the early portrayal.
