X-Men: 12 best and worst character decisions made by Fox

10. Hit – Deadpool

Hate him or love him for being an overexposed box office sensation. No matter what you say, there’s no denying the accuracy of Deadpool. It started with Ryan Reynolds sticking to his guns and pushing for an R-rated movie. Fox initially destroyed the hero in the Wolverine, but 11 years later, with a small budget, Team Deadpool fixed it.

Deadpool really was a different kind of comic book movie. The Regenerating Degenerate was everything fans expected and more. With Disney buying Fox, there are some unanswered questions. One being, how the Merc with a Mouth fits into the squeaky-clean world of Disney? No matter what happens, Disney should make a place for Deadpool, even if they have to lend him to Sony or create a dark label.

9. Miss – Gambit

Oh what a missed opportunity this was with Fox. The introduction of Gambit aka Remy LeBeau would have opened up a whole new world for the X-Men. Unfortunately, that never happened, okay, technically we did get a live-action depiction of Gambit. Although, if you blinked you probably missed the New Orleans native in X-Men Origins: Wolverine — assuming you watched it. Sorry, Taylor Kitsch, you deserved better — so did Gambit. Before Wolverine, there was no sign of Gambit in any X-Men film and we haven’t seen him since.

There was or is a solo film in development by Channing Tatum who’s also set to star. However, it shouldn’t, at least not with Tatum as the star. The movie should fit into this current crop of X-Men—if Disney keeps them. They need someone 23-27 to bring Gambit to life with a story that involves Sinister and the Maurders.

Going through with a Gambit solo film gives Disney/Marvel a chance to slowly introduce the X-Men by building up a character similar to Phase One of the MCU. The difference is, Gambit and the Marauders makes for an interesting antagonist for the already established X-Men.
