X-Men: 12 best and worst character decisions made by Fox
6. Hit – Quicksilver
The gem of the X-Men reboot was Quicksilver, played by Evan Peters. Fox did right by the characters’ backstory. In the original X-Men trilogy, Quicksilver was nonexistent let along his relationship with Magneto. However, over the course of the soft X-Men reboot, Quicksilver was introduced in a big way. For example, in Days of Future Past, we got a glimpse at the awesomeness that is Quicksilver. He was funny, charismatic, fast-talking, charming teen.
Moreover, in Apocalypse, we saw the father-son dynamic play out between Quicksilver and Magneto. Not to mention, he had one of the more amazing slow-motion sequences ever. Evan Peters is an immensely talented actor and Disney should keep him around. It’ll be nice to see him and a properly revived Brotherhood in future films.
5. Miss – Mystique
There was nothing wrong with the actresses that played Mystique, Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence. Although, some may argue against Lawrence. The issue was the way Fox decided to portray the X-Men foe. In the original trilogy, she was used as a villain but her story was bland. There wasn’t anything about Mystique’s backstory that made her interesting. The original trilogy neglected her ties with Nightcrawler and Mystique.
X-Men: First Class fixed it but instead of making her more of an anti-villain they essentially made her an X-Men. There’s no link between Mystique, Destiny, and Rogue but there’s an Easter egg that she’s Nightcrawler’s mother.
Worst of all, Fox misjudged Mystique as far as embracing who she is. Instead of making Mystique a strong mutant leader who isn’t shy about how she looks. Fox opted to keep her in human form—probably because it’s Jennifer Lawrence playing the role. What we need is a Mystique solo film where we explore her relationship with Destiny and Rogue.
