2. Hit – Wolverine

From the start of the X-Men franchise in 2000, it was clear Hug Jackman was the perfect choice for Wolverine. Over the course of 17 years, Fox went all in with Wolverine. He became the focal point of the franchise with three feature films including a proper sendoff in 2017, Logan. Wolverine also got the spotlight in Days of Future Past oppose to Kitty Pryde who was the focus character in the pages of Marvel comic.

For almost two decades, Fox has delivered the X-Men to us on the big screen. While some characters got the red carpet treatment, others have not. We explored the best and worse that Fox has to offer. Did we miss anyone? Leave a comment below.

1. Miss  – Juggernaut

Juggernaut was a complete disaster, from the casting choice to his bland history. Fox truly botched one of Marvel’s greatest characters. The first X-Men trilogy relegated Juggernaut to a less than supporting character. During the latter trilogy, he was completely ignored. Luckily Ryan Reynolds made up for the catastrophe that Fox created. Let’s hope, going forward that Disney sticks with the comic book continuity that made us love Juggernaut.

There’s a lot of potential with the unstoppable force. We want to see a story about Cain Marko and the  Crimson Gem of Cyttorak that granted him his powers. Or at least a film that focuses on his origin pitting him against the X-Men.

A part of me wants to say, “It’s understandable that Fox couldn’t fit all of X-Men stories on the big screen.” But, when you look at what Disney was able to do how could you be understanding. Disney did with dozens of heroes, including a team that didn’t require solo films what Fox failed to do with the X-Men.

Even with the soft reboot, there were no excuses for how they neglected jubilee and Nightcrawler (again). Like Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men work as a unit. Unfortunately, there were too many misses and not enough hits.  When it comes to the X-Men fans want and expect more.

For example, there are some amazing individual stories that Fox could have used for their X-Men Origins but they failed. All except Wolverine and they messed up by not putting Deadpool under the Origins banner. Kitty Pryde was another missed opportunity but there’s still hope for her with her alleged solo movie. We’re also seeing other characters like Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Storm, and Angel getting their stories told—let’s hope its done correctly.

Luckily for, fans there’s a whole other opportunity. Here’s to hoping Disney can make up for Fox’s mistakes but capitalize off the good. X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters Feb. 14, 2019, and gives Fox another opportunity to make up for past mistakes—lets hope Disney is helping with that.
