With the fifth season of The Flash just around the corner, we’ve decided to look back on the show and rank each season.

The Flash, with four seasons under its belt, has covered a lot of territory and firmly established itself at or near the top of the Arrowverse hierarchy.

However, as popular as the show has been, its quality has arguably dipped over the years. Though seasons three and four were still fairly enjoyable, many fans longed for the greatness of the first two seasons.

Clearly, the show’s quality is a subjective matter. Whatever happens on the screen will be enjoyed by some fans and panned by others. With that being said, we’ve decided to rank the four seasons of the Flash.

Season One

What’s not to like about the first season? The Flash met his rogues and battled Gorilla Grodd. Mark Hamill made his first delightful cameo in the series as the Trickster. Fans were introduced to the compelling relationship between Captain Cold and Heatwave, who are played by fan favorite actors Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.

There was even an Arrow crossover episode, and season one also dove into time travel in a respectable way. Along with several quality “villain of the week” episodes, Barry explored his relationship with his imprisoned father, which was a highlight of the show.

Additionally, the writers began to dip into Barry’s relationship with his mother, which became a fixture of the show’s first two seasons. Oh, there was also the season-long mystery about Dr. Wells and the Reverse-Flash.

The reveal that Dr. Wells was really the sinister Eobard Thawne in disguise was a shocking moment that really hooked viewers. The writers slowly built up the suspense surrounding Wells/Thawne and kicked it into high gear as the season neared its end. The temporary death of beloved character Cisco Ramone devastated fans and reinforced the depths of Thawne’s depravity. Season one was wonderful, and it’ll be hard for the show to ever surpass it.
