The Morlocks and the Mutant Massacre

A Gambit solo movie can actually help fix a terrible error made by Fox — The Morlocks. They were understandably neglected in the original X-Men trilogy. However, with the reboot and a Gambit solo film, things can change. With Disney taking over, there’s an opportunity for Gambit to lead into a massive crossover event, the Mutant Massacre

In the comics, unbeknownst to Gambit, he lead the team on a mission to kill a group of underground mutants, the Morlocks. In the process, hundreds of Morlocks were killed. Additionally, Gambit was justifiable painted as a bad guy in the eyes of the X-Men. If not for his rescuing a de-aged Storm, Gambit would have stayed an outcast. Moreover, the Mutant Massacre wasn’t just about the X-Men. The event included a number of Marvel characters including Thor and Daredevil, as well as the New Mutants and Power Pack. Gambit has an potential to create a crossover event that could rival “Civil War.”

Maybe Fox’s gambit with the release dates is their way of getting fans amped up for the possibility. It could set up for a major event that Marvel fans have waited for. There’s an opportunity to give fans an epic cinematic experience, but Fox has to make some changes first. It’s time for Gambit to move in a different direction and allow the movie to set up something much bigger.
