Ranking 2019 superhero movies by interest

A list of upcoming superhero movies scheduled to come out over the next year based on whether they’re worth seeing.

No one, at this point, can deny that superhero movies aren’t popular. For almost two decades now, they have dominated the movie and television landscape. Films like X-Men (2000), Spider-Man (2002) and The Dark Knight (2008) have been given the gold star treatment in terms of story and direction while staying true to the spirit of the source material. Thanks to the Avengers (2012), the concept of having a “cinematic universe,” a series of interconnecting films and TV shows, was born. And, thanks to repeated box office success, there’s no sign of fatigue as of yet.

Hence why 2019 will reportedly hold the record of having the most superhero films in one year.  With the exception of M. Night Shymalan’s comic book inspired Glass, there will be a total of nine superhero movies. These will range from sequels for Avengers, Spider-Man, and Wonder Woman, two X-Men movies, two new entries in the Marvel Cinematic and DC Extended Universes, a reboot, and a super villain origin movie. Seems like many a Hollywood Studio is really going all in on folks in capes and tights.

The question, however, is which of these nine films will potential moviegoers actually be interested in? Like it or not, there are certain franchises that will attract more attention (and thus potential earn rake in more ticket sales) than others. More than likely, the average moviegoer will skip some of these movies altogether and maybe wait for their DVD release, leaving only a handful they must see in theaters.  So which one looks promising and which ones don’t?

That’s what we’ll be determining as we count down and rank next year’s upcoming superhero films by their potential interest. Most of this, of course, is pure conjecture based on trailers, gossip, behind the scenes photos, or any other promotional material. We’ll also take into account that if the movie in question is a sequel the past performances of the previous movie. With that, let’s kick things off with…
