1. Avengers 4 (May 3, 2019)

Was there really any doubt that the still untitled fourth Avengers movie is the most anticipated summer movie of next year? Not when Avengers: Infinity War, in the midst of dull summer movie season, became the fourth all-time highest grossing movie and earned more than the first Avengers.

Anticipation for this movie was already high even before Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters since Avengers 4 was originally conceived of as Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2. Both superhero films were the culmination of ten years of an interconnected cinematic universe spanning eighteen movies and eleven television series. The pantheon of Marvel’s superheroes facing off against Thanos was the plan ever since the Mad Titan appeared in the stinger at the end of the first Avengers (2012).

Now, thanks to one of the most shocking snapping of the fingers in cinematic history, there has been article after article speculating about what will happen next, especially about who will live, who will die, and who will return from beyond the grave. Also, since most the original cast from Avengers (2012) are about to have their studio contracts expire–including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth–there’s rampant speculation that Avengers 4 will be their last movie with Marvel Studios.

Needless to say, the hype surrounding Avengers 4 is extremely high. That, of course, puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the actors, the Russo Brothers, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFreely, producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios, and Disney. Yet even if it doesn’t reach the level of dramatic heights as Infinity War, people will still flock to see it, if only to see how this chapter of the MCU comes to close.
