Comic book movies: The top 20 hero performances

6. Wesley Snipes as Blade
People tend to attribute the X-Men with the success of the Marvel movie franchise and Deadpool for being Marvel’s first R-rated movie. However, before the X-Men had their success, Blade came out with an R-rated movie that put Marvel characters on the map. Punisher with Dolph Lundgren was an R-rated first, but Blade was actually watchable and has replay value. Blade proved that the character doesn’t matter as long as you have a good script and an amazing actor. Wesley Snipes came in, took the role and helped create two incredible movies (and one people enjoy for other reasons).
Snipes portrayal of Blade was flawless. He was the monotone, angry, brooding and cynical Blade from the comic books. To top it off, he was a great fighter. So when Blade was beating down vampires, it was believable. When he delivered his lines, they may have been corny, but Blade made them sound cool. Even the, “Coochie coo” moment in Blade Trinity was good. If not for the poor response from fans from the third movie, he’d be ranked higher. Even then, Snipes was good. It was just more comedic than people were expecting. Also, the rumors of him having a bad attitude didn’t help his cause.
