Review: Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #310

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #310 marks the end of Chip Zdarky’s run on the series as he takes on the writing and the art duties.

Chip Zdarsky knows how to have fun when he writes comics and he also knows how to hit some emotional beats, which we see in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #310. His finale is one that doesn’t need much context, which makes it a perfect single issue to just pick up and read. You’re in for a treat with this one.

Zdarsky has done some funny art every now and then at the end of issues that I’ve seen before, but I was impressed with how he was able to put this full issue together. It takes on a documentary style as a film student is working on his final project, which is about Spider-Man and what people think about him. Naturally, some people love Spider-Man and others don’t like him quite as much.

One of the most touching moments in the issue is when a mother talks about Spider-Man keeping her son out of jail, only to have the criminals who paid him get to him later. You can see how much it not only eats up the mother, but how much it affects Spider-Man. He was even helping the kid with his math homework, so it went far beyond just keeping him out of trouble.
