Birds of Prey: What Batman’s absence means for Gotham

Renee Montoya
The likely scenario for Renee Montoya is simple. She’s a cop that’s in over her head going after Black Mask. She’ll likely be part of the group of cops who stayed behind to protect Gotham. As a matter of fact, there’s a way to link her and Huntress. Renee could join Detective Pettit’s squad of cops who opposed Jim Gordon’s way of protecting Gotham. Instead, they aligned themselves with Huntress.
In the comics, Pettit became corrupt. Birds of Prey can use this arc by making Pettit or whoever, unwilling to investigate Black Mask. This would allow for Renee to quit and join the women trying to take down Black Mask.
Don’t be surprised if Oracle’s absence is explained and all that’s left if Black Canary and Huntress. During a time Jin Gordon was kidnapped in No Man’s Land which could explain his and Oracle’s absence. Harley will become an unlikely hero as she gets a taste of what’s it like to band women together.
Who knows it could lead up to a Gotham City Sirens film or help Harley become the leader she’s meant to be in Suicide Squad. No Man’s Land is the only arc that allows for that kind of freedom. It could keep the origins of the original Birds of Prey somewhat in tact but also merging Harley Quinn and Cassandra Cain into the fold.
