8.  Guardians of the Galaxy

Who would have thought that a movie like this would have been as popular as it was? A team of losers (I mean, they lost stuff) thrown together out of happenstance ends up saving the universe. There weren’t any well-known characters in this movie and no one believed Chris Pratt could be an action star. The movie was even released in a smaller amount of theaters than the other movies in the MCU. It’s been four years since Guardians of the Galaxy debuted and people still enjoy it like it was their first time.

This was the first time the MCU produced a movie that was more comedy than anything else. The Iron Man trilogy may have been funny, but not like this. There was a lot of physical comedy, goofiness, and some jokes that were meant to be bad. Guess what? It all worked out perfectly. The cast they put together was phenomenal and they each played to their strengths. The movie made a talking raccoon and a tree that says, “I am Groot” more popular than some old-school comic book characters we’ve seen so far.

You can also tell this was a good movie due to the lack of a universally loved villain. While Ronan was good, he definitely gets out-shined by the heroes. Something that rarely happens anymore. You’d be hard pressed to find a movie where you’ll have more fun than Guardians of the Galaxy. I challenge anyone to not smile when Star-Lord has his dance-off and not get sad when you hear Groot save the team and go, “WE. Are. Groot.” It also helps that it has one of the best soundtracks of all time.
