Review: Spider-Geddon #1 builds off of Spider-Verse
Spider-Geddon #1 gives us a look at more heroes and who exactly they’ll be up against during the event.
Spoilers ahead for Spider-Geddon #1.
In the 2014 event, Spider-Verse, our favorite Spider-Heroes took on the Inheritors. They’re back in Spider-Geddon #1 and Morlun in particular is looking for revenge. The issue leads our team of heroes to the lab of Superior Octopus (aka Doc Ock). Ock’s ego gets in the way, as it usually does, and that’s when trouble ensues.
With the Inheritors being kept as prisoners on a radioactive planet, it felt inevitable that they’d find a way out. Their tech is powerful and the story lends itself to having it be Doc Ock who thinks he can use it without and repercussions. He was clearly wrong, which is something he never likes to hear. While his ego gets in the way in this issue, it’ll be interesting to see if his demeanor changes as he begins to realize just how much harm he’s done.
We still have four more issue (not including the tie-ins) to see how this all plays out, but Christos Gage does a nice job taking the Dan Slott-assisted story and turning it into a stark reality for these heroes. It’s a perfectly believable story and we know that these heroes will do whatever it takes to set things right again. However, this issue is largely just set up for what’s to come. The Inheritors have arrived, but they haven’t done much else yet.
The art on this issue is good, too. Jorge Molina takes the tall task of drawing a bunch of Spider-Heroes and excels at it. he even does a nice job with the other characters like Count Nefaria. The facial expressions are spot on. When you combine that with the colors by David Curiel, this book just looks good all around.

Spider-Geddon is just beginning and I’m pretty excited about this event. We’ll see if they end up taking things a little too far with the tie-ins because Marvel does do that at times, but this event is worth checking out even if you only plan to focus on the main title.
