Review: Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #1 starts a new adventure
With Spider-Geddon in full swing, Gwen Stacy returns in an all-new solo series, Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider.
There are spoilers ahead for Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #1.
Spider-Gwen is back in action with a new solo title and a new creative team. Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #1 doesn’t fully have the character using her new code name, but she does mention needing one that isn’t Spider-Gwen.
Despite the new creative team, they really nailed the feel of the character that Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez created. Seanan McGuire, Rose Kämpe and Ian Herring do a nice job with continuing her story after her stint in prison and keeping the consistent tone with the art as she bounds her way through the city.
Gwen is able to see Harry and help out a woman who actually appreciates what she does for the city before she’s visited by Spider-Ham. We get a decent chunk of the issue to catch up with her life before she’s brought into the fold with what’s going on with the Inheritors.

After Gwen goes through the portal, she realizes how different this Earth is compared to hers. Oscorp is abandoned, there’s a female goblin to go up against and this Peter Parker is still around. She sees him at the old Oscorp building and it’s a shock to him.
Right now, Spider-Gwen is one of my favorite Spidey characters to read. It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman in a solo series, so Gwen is our leading Spider-lady for now. She’s a fun character that has a great back story. I’m looking forward to how this series moves forward after the events of Spider-Geddon.
