Review: Spider-Force #1 sees the beginning of a new mission

Spider-Force #1 introduces us to a new character and forms an unlikely team in order to take on Verna.

As Spider-Geddon continues, our Spidey heroes need to split up in order to take on specific tasks. In Spider-Force #1, we see what Kaine, Jessica Drew, Ashley Barton and Spider-Kid are up to and it isn’t anything good.

We don’t see Earth-3145 often, but it is pretty deadly when we do. The heroes head there in protective suits to avoid the radiation and they only have about 15 minutes to work with. Priest does a nice job of setting up what the stakes are before our heroes even arrive. He also gives us a nice introduction to Spider-Kid.

Spider-Kid has quite the personality and we don’t need to spend a ton of time with him to see that. He’s just a kid, but he’s street smart since he appears to be largely on his own on Earth-218. He’s still Peter Parker, but he goes by Charlie now.

The art by Paulo Siqueira is nicely done, as well. It complements the writing well. You really get a feel for what Earth-3145 is like right off the bat because of how it looks. The same goes for the characters, too. The way they’re drawn lets their emotions and personalities shine through in the body language on the page.

Could we see more Spider-Man games for PS4?. dark. Next

Oren Junior and Craig Yeung team up on inks and Guru e-FX is on colors for the issue. Along with VC’s Joe Sabino, they round out the look and feel of this book. I’m looking forward to how things look as they get deeper into the radioactive Earth, but so far things are looking good on this book.

This is one of the mini-series that I’m really interested in. I’ve been more interested in Kaine as I began reading Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider recently and noticed him popping up in that series a lot. He’s leading this team with Jessica Drew and they have a polarizing dynamic going right now. Jessica has a family and Kaine doesn’t appear to have much to lose, but he knows that he needs her help.

Hopefully things turn out well for them in the end, but there’s a chance that we lose a hero soon. Spider-Force #1 is definitely one of the Spider-Geddon tie-ins that everyone should check out. It could have a big impact on the event.
