Rhode Island Comic Con: An amalgamation of fun
By Mark Lynch
We’re looking back at the fun celebration of comics and pop culture that was Rhode Island Comic Con.
Once upon a time, they were a haven for comic book fans to grab exclusive books, merchandise, and hard to find back issues. They were also an opportunity to meet some of your favorite comic book creators and celebrities. Now, comic book conventions are more popular than ever before. It’s no longer just about comic books. Artists from multiple genres come to show off their work. Celebrities who have nothing to do with comics come and meet with their fans, sign autographs, and sometimes answer some questions. Recently, I was press at the Rhode Island Comic Con. It is the smallest state in the U.S., but it’s a huge comic con.

Cosplay
The one thing that always amazes me are the fans who cosplay. The attention to detail in their costumes is sometimes better than what we’ve seen in the movies. There are even people who cosplay professionally. The Rhode Island Comic-Con was no different. In fact, I’d say that this con was even more impressive than people would have expected, because this isn’t being shown on a scale that matches San Diego Comic-Con.
There weren’t just comic book and anime characters. There were Stormtroopers with real audible radios, people dressed as their favorite WWE stars (a few came as Shinsuke Nakamura), and fewer Deadpool cosplayers than you would think. People seemed to be more creative this year than I’ve seen in a long time. The costumes ranged from Zora the Destroyer of Glow to Raven of DC Comics, and one guy even had on a Wonder Woman costume that was combined with elements of Aquaman, as well. Even the simple ones that only require a few items that can be found at a local store were amazing.
