Rick Grimes is dead but not forgotten

As I mentioned earlier, Rick Grimes technically didn’t die. While he’s not expected to rejoin the cast Rick’s new life means The Walking Dead continues beyond the magnifying glass we have. According to THR, Rick’s story will continue in feature-length films. After season nine episode five concluded, creators revealed plans to capitalize off Rick.

"“The story of Rick will go on in films… We’re working on three but there’s flexibility in that… large, big scope movie that will feel like a major motion picture…We’re looking to broaden this into a universe where the movies that Andy will be in are the highest-profile things that we do.”"

So, while he’s no longer part of The Walking Dead — Rick’s life after death serves a purpose. It almost sounds like we’ll get a zombie movie trilogy that’s more character driven. In fact, Scott  Gimple went on to explain how Rick’s movies will give a broader look of the large universe that is The Walking Dead. As a matter of fact, the reason why Andrew Lincoln parted with the series was to spend more time with his family, in England.

"“There were story ideas brewing that, as the years went on, seemed very compatible with continuing to tell the Rick story in another format that would allow him time with his family.”"

We’ll see Rick’s movie shifts to the other side of the world. Fans often wondered how the rest of the world dealt with the outbreak. Fear the Walking Dead gave us glimpses but not enough. It’s exciting to hear Andrew Lincoln will usher in an expanded look at an already large universe. Now, creators will gift us with an opportunity to see the world beyond what’s already established.
