The Return of Cyclops
Stories: Utopia, Inhumans vs. X-Men, X-Men: Extermination
After House of M, Cyclops’ plan went from coexisting to the survival of the mutant race. He opened his doors to all mutants (good or bad) and protected them the best way he could. After the events of Messiah Complex where Xavier died (only to come back less than three months later), Cyclops moved the team to San Francisco where Mutants could live free without persecution. When Norman Osborn started a war against mutants (Utopia), he moved them to an island (formerly Asteroid M) where they could live in peace.
As tradition with the X-Men, things kept getting worse. The splitting of the X-Men after Wolverine and Cyclops fought (Schism), Cyclops being possessed by the Phoenix Force and killing Xavier (Avengers VS X-Men), and Cyclops was eventually killed by the Terrigan Mist moving around the world.
Wolverine may be the most popular, but Cyclops is their leader, heart, and soul. He is the reason why after we found out how much of a jerk Professor Xavier is that the team could still go on. I’ve said it multiple times here that the X-Men aren’t the same without the adult Cyclops. He may be more important than Wolverine. Adult Cyclops will absolutely be back.
