9. Savitar

The Future Flash, Savitar was a time remnant of Barry Allen’s who was shunned by the team; cast aside because he wasn’t the “real” Barry. As the main villain of The Flash Season 3, he was a formidable foe, and arguably the fastest speedster Barry has ever faced.

The truly interesting thing about him was the fact that he shared all of Barry’s memories, so he literally knew what was coming. Even when Team Flash tried to change the future, his memory altered to match the new timeline. He bided his time trapped in the speed force until he was able to put his plan into action.

A master manipulator, he recruited a number of acolytes and turned Julian Albert into Alchemy to restore powers to metahumans from Flashpoint. He finally freed himself from his prison by tricking Wally West into throwing the Philosopher’s Stone into the Speed Force.

The main problem with Savitar was viewers were tired of Barry always facing speedsters as his main villains. This was the third evil speedster in a row and this meant that essentially, Barry would go through the same journey this season: to become faster. Also, it took so long to reveal the twist that Savitar was actually the Future Flash, that audiences had already guessed his identity. There were a number of interesting storytelling possibilities that were missed by waiting so long.
