8. Reign

Supergirl Season 3’s main villain was unlike any she had faced before. We met her in the season premiere as Sam Arias, the new CEO of L Corp, and followed her journey along every step of the way. It was really interesting to see how this caring single-mother became a truly formidable foe.

At first, it didn’t seem that there was anything villainous about Sam at all until she started to look into her origins. She discovered that she was an alien and she had arrived on Earth as a child. It was only after she discovered a Kryptonian crystal and made her own Fortress in the desert that she fully learned the truth.

Reign was a Worldkiller created by a cult of dark Kryptonians that was sent to Earth to execute justice. After Sam discovered this, Reign was able to take control of her body and confront Supergirl. She was a formidable foe to the Girl of Steel and basically a dark mirror of the character. She even put Supergirl out of action for a significant period when she broke her back.

Eventually, Kara was able to reach through to Sam’s personality and make her realize that she was stronger than Reign. But it was interesting to see the two sides of Sam battling for control, particularly as Reign seemed to have all of the power.
