10. Deadpool

Who is he?

Who is Deadpool? I like to describe him as what happens when Punisher and Spider-Man had a baby. Then that baby was experimented on, tortured and became a contract killer. People see Deadpool and assume that he’s just a joking person. He’s more than that. He’s a deep character with a lot of layers. He’s loved and lost and repeated the cycle more times than most. He’s even in love with Death and he can’t die.

Why this works

There was a lot of speculation about what would happen to Deadpool now that Disney owns the rights to the 20th Century Fox properties. He’s violent, vulgar, and essentially everything that Disney isn’t.

With that said, you absolutely have to add Deadpool to the MCU mix. Deadpool’s time as a hero is just starting. In the comic books, he’s been an Avenger. He toned down the violence while he was on the Avengers Unity Squad. Sure, he still killed and cursed, but nothing like we saw in his solo series. Captain America (before he was Hydra) had faith in him and if he has faith in him, than the MCU should as well. You need a good guy who’s unlike anything you already have. Variety is the spice of life and Deadpool is spicier than the Mexican food he loves.
