5. Mr. Sinister

Who is he?

Nathaniel Essex has always been a bit eccentric and uncaring. He believed in Darwin’s survival of the fittest theory and strives to create the perfect human specimen. The problem was that his methods were unethical.

Essex eventually left his wife and aligned himself with Apocalypse. Essex let Apocalypse transform him and Mr. Sinister was born. While working for Apocalypse, Sinister was also working on the perfect human in order to destroy Apocalypse.

Why this works

Sinister is a good balance of despicable, creepy, and awe-inspiring. His genius intellect, manipulation skills, and sick experiments make him a character that will be both despised and admired. He hasn’t had many of run ins with the Avengers, but this could change. Thor, Steve Rogers (who he dealt with in World War 2), and some of the other Avengers have DNA that he can use to further his experiments.

The one things that’s consistent about Sinister is that even when he loses, he somehow wins. Sinister has spent decades trying to build perfection. So when the X-Men defeat him, he takes it as a learning experience and adapts for the next fight. This may be because he’s found a way to clone himself and knows he has all the time in the world.
