17. X-23

Who is she?

X-23 (Laura) is more than just a clone of Wolverine. She’s actually his daughter (genetically). She was created to be the ultimate killing machine and to kill Wolverine.

Just like Logan, she was tortured, experimented on, and treated like a weapon instead of person. The place that created her even made a scent that sends her into a berserk rage. The major difference is Laura was treated like this since birth and Logan got most of the abuse from labs as an adult.

If not for her mother reading to Laura, she wouldn’t have had any compassion in her. As an X-Man, she was used by Cyclops (which didn’t sit right with Logan). Later she spent a good amount of time with Gambit who showed her there was more to the world than just killing and being a weapon.

Why this works

If what we saw from X-23 in Logan is any indication to what is to come, we are in good hands. Dafne Keen stole the show and barely had any lines. Everyone loved how brutal she was, but they loved her compassion. When she was crying at Logan’s grave, I even shed a tear. Everything about X-23 in Logan is what we need from her in the MCU. She can be the child who starts off seeing herself as a killer and eventually realizing she can be so much more.
