Review: Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider No. 3, going home

Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider No. 3 shows us how Gwen handles confronting a different version of herself to try to help her.

Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider No. 3 is the third part in the Spider-Geddon tie-in. Gwen has been trapped on a different Earth and because of it, she hasn’t been able to participate in the huge fight against the Inheritors. However, it has been nice to not have this title tie-in directly.

Gwen Stacy is still in search of a new codename, even though it’s in the title. However, that doesn’t detract from the story too much. This is an emotional ride, not only for her, but for MJ and Peter in this world. Their Gwen is troubled and desperately needs help. Their answer to getting her help is to work with someone who looks just like her.

We don’t see much of Peter in this issue, but we see MJ a ton. She’s with Earth-65 Gwen for the entirety of the issue. MJ is ultimately the one who talks down her Gwen since she knows that she’d never hurt her. There’s a bond between the two no matter what goes down.

One of the things I loved about this issue is how Earth-65 Gwen makes the various correlations to her Earth in order to figure out what might be important to this Earth’s Gwen Stacy. She has a knowledge that other’s wouldn’t necessarily have, even if they aren’t the exact same person.

I’m looking forward to where this comic goes next. When Spider-Geddon is over, who knows what we’ll be left with, but since the series just started, I don’t see Gwen going away any time soon. This series is off to a pretty good start.
