Best Arrowverse episodes – No. 29

Legends of To-Meow-Meow (Legends of Tomorrow season 4 episode 8)

If you’re into wacky off-the-wall adventures that just don’t make any sense, then Legends of Tomorrow is undoubtedly the gift that just keeps on giving. The great thing about a show that is fully aware of just how unruly it has the potential to be is that, most of the time, there are no limits – and that was never clearer than in its fourth season’s midseason finale.

In response to the show being left out of the latest Arrowverse crossover, the Legends showrunners crafted their own mini-crossover to please its fans. The result was a no holds barred nerd-fest that took the show into crazier territory than ever before while paying tribute to some of the most iconic (and cheesy) superheroes of TV.

The episode focused on John Constantine’s decision to save the soul of his lost love, Desmond, which ultimately screwed up the timeline (in major fashion). In his attempts to fix it, the Legends of Tomorrow underwent a series of makeovers, becoming the murderous Custodians of the Chronology before evolving into Charlie’s Angels-inspired Sirens of Space-Time. Oh yeah, and there were puppets in there too.

However, underneath all this lunacy, there was an emotional core, revolving around Constantine’s struggles with damning Desmond all over again. Thus, “Legends of To-Meow-Meow” is an example of Legends of Tomorrow at its finest. It makes you laugh, wheeze and even raises a few eyebrows, but ultimately, it hooks us in a way that very few shows can – registering with us on every emotional level possible.
