DC and Marvel are the most dominant comic book companies. However, they aren’t the only comic books around. Dark Horse comics has its fair share of heroes, one of them being X.

Like John Wick, much of who X truly is remains a mystery. There is no true backstory of the man behind the mask. The mysteriousness that is the hero X makes him an intriguing character.

What is known about X is he’s a child of a scientist. After stealing the infected amputated arm from a military general — the military raided the scientist’s (X’s father) home. The scientist injected his son, Johnny, with blood from the infected arm.

Johnny survived alone on the streets, completely healed from his wounds. He suffered from severe amnesia and became a ward of the state, named Johnny Smith 24.

X was given the name Jack by a psychologist after she falls in love with him. Caught in a love triangle, Jack opts to take out his lover’s ex, a crime boss, Carmine. Jack failed, but he did impress Carmine who took him under his wing.

Years later, Jack removes himself from Carmine and becomes the deadly vigilante, X. As X he fights against corruption, hitmen, and gang members. He has regeneration powers that allow wounds to heal — similarly to Wolverine.

X marks his victims with a slash giving them a chance to live. Should they continue their evil he returns and adds the other slash completely for the X — sealing their fate.

A movie about X would require a time jump which tells two tales. One briefly reflecting his childhood, and the other as the full-blown psychotic hero.
