It’s the dawn of a new era for Whovians as a new tradition begins with the first Doctor Who New Year’s Special, which takes the place of the traditional Christmas Specials that have aired since the show’s return in 2005. The episode, called “Resolution,” revolves around the dawn of 2019. A new threat is coming to Earth and the Doctor and her Companions will have a fight on their hands.

“As the new year begins, a terrifying evil from across the centuries of Earth’s history is stirring. As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz return home, will they be able to overcome the threat to planet Earth?”
As this will be the only episode of Doctor Who to air in 2019, it’s fitting that the theme revolves around the New Year’s holiday and the dawn of a new year. The new Doctor has been a beacon of hope to fans in a time when hope is at a premium, so having her around in 2019 is a welcome thing, even if it’s only one episode.
“Resolution” stands to be interesting because it’s a story based on something evil from Earth’s history. Doctor Who is known for its monsters and time travel and alien planets, but sometimes the evil lies within. And this season of Doctor Who has been really good at focusing upon social issues on Earth.
