Through 2018’s comic book films, which ones topped the box office?
We had eight comic book movies for 2018. Now we move into 2019, but first let us take a look back. How did these eight films do at the box office?
8. Teen Titans Go! To The Movies
This one probably flies under a lot of people’s radar. Teen Titans Go! To The Movies is a film based on the animated kids series. Many of die-hard Teen Titans fan do not particularly care for the show. Therefore, not many were rushing to see it. Teen Titans Go! To The Movies debuted in the late month of July at the number five spot for its weekend. Believe it or not, the film has a solid background of positive reviews here and there. Safe to say, this did not save it.
Teen Titans Go! To The Movies finished up with a domestic box office total of $29.7 million. Meanwhile, it raked in an additional $22.3 million from overseas. In the end, the film made a worldwide total of over $52 million. This should be enough to hold off that $10 million production budget of theirs. Safe to say these numbers are nothing for Warner Bros. to look at for sequel potential though.
7. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse*
Finally in 2018, we have a new character put on the mask. We are talking about Miles Morales of course in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Originally, this film was receiving some skepticism given that it is an animated film. Obviously this is a film for kids, a push for toys and something ridiculous. Sorry general audience, Miles Morales is a real character and the Spider-Verse is a legit thing from the comic books. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse came out in time for the holiday break in mid-December.
Miles Morales opened at the number one spot with over $35 million. The film finished the year with over $107.6 million. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has made over $109.5 million from international receipts so far. At the moment the film has made over $217 million. Now keep in mind, this is for 2018 so far. We shall see where it goes from here and hopefully only up. For all we know it could climb the charts of 2018.
