With Aquaman recently passing the billion-dollar mark at the box office, DC is assuredly going all in their properties currently in the works, including the New Gods, which is reportedly going to focus on Mister Miracle and Big Barda.

As rumored by We Got This Covered, sources have stated that the upcoming New Gods film will focus on Mister Miracle and Big Barda attempting to escape the Fourth World planet of Apokolips. Along with this escape, the political turmoil between Apokolips and its sister-planet New Genesis, which is ever-present in the comics, will reportedly be prominent in the film.

Originally created in the 1970s by comic legend Jack Kirby, they have been featured in a variety of formats over the years, ranging from mainstream comics to appearing in two DCEU films. The most widespread use of the New Gods comes in the form of Darkseid though who is often used as the DC equivalent of Thanos and is really the big bad of the DC Universe. He has been used prominently in comic events such as Final Crisis and Justice League: The Darkseid War, as well as being an overarching villain in Superman: The Animated Series, as well as Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.

Recently though, the New Gods have come back into prominence, at least in the comic world, through Tom King and Mitch Gerads’ Eisner award-winning maxi-series, Mister Miracle. Much of the god-like exploits and storytelling took a backseat during this and was rather about the characters, and power couple, of Mister Miracle and Big Barda. Because of this acclaimed series, it would make sense that DC would possibly want to focus on the two characters that have received such reverence and character development rather than focusing on two behemoths who want to destroy each other (Darkseid and High Father).
