Netflix releases a trailer for their new show The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic of the same name. But what exactly is going on?

It’s hard to believe that almost four years ago Daredevil first appeared on Netflix, kick-starting the era of Marvel Netflix shows. However, it seems that era is coming to a close as many of the Marvel shows have been canceled by Netflix, who doesn’t seem to be done with the comics realm though, as a new trailer has dropped recently for The Umbrella Academy.

Based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name, the official trailer for The Umbrella Academy gave us a vague look into the story and a bit of the tone for the series. The series will follow six super-powered individuals who were adopted and trained to become a superhero team known as The Umbrella Academy. Though at some point during their time as heroes an event causes the team to break apart.

Seventeen years after their split, the individuals are brought back together due to the death of their adoptive father and founder of their team. One member of the team, who can apparently time travel, ventures to the future and upon his return relays an ominous message that the world will end in eight days. Now, it’s up to The Umbrella Academy to put aside their differences and stop the impending threat.

The show seems to have a gritty tone akin to that of the Marvel Netflix shows or Deadly Class. Along with a story setup that can’t help but be compared to the X-Men. The show does seem to have a more unique feel in that it has a ticking time clock, as well as featuring a roster of has-been heroes.

The first season will most likely follow the first volume of the comic, allowing Netflix to potentially push out a few more seasons. The Umbrella Academy drops onto Netflix on Feb. 15.
