13. Barry and Patty (The Flash)

As we just established, the 2024 newspaper ensured there was never any real doubt about Barry and Iris’ destiny. Having said that, the writers needed a seemingly natural way to draw things out during the show’s second season as Iris was still recovering from Eddie’s death and Barry had put his feelings on the backburner: Enter Patty Spivot.

A bubbly, nerdy and enthusiastic CCPD officer, Patty was essentially just a female version of Barry, so it came as no surprise when the pair immediately hit it off. But finishing each other’s sentences while belly-laughing was only the beginning for these two as they soon found themselves undeniably drawn to each other.

Due to his feelings for Iris, we already knew how hard Barry Allen loved, but his relationship with Patty showed us a different side to that. While Iris brought out the confident loving man within him, he was much more like his early fun-loving and geeky self around Patty, which made it the perfect relationship for his younger days.

Her willingness to accept all of his awkward tendencies and return them in spades made Barry comfortable when it came to relationships and allowed him to grow into the confident, mature man that he is today. However, the problem was that, while Barry was willing to share all of who he was with Patty, he significantly held back when it came to sharing who he was becoming. As a result, her quest for the truth, and Barry’s unwillingness to share his biggest secret with her, ultimately tore their relationship apart. Nevertheless, the pair’s “adorkable” chemistry made this one of the Arrowverse’s most endearing pairings.
