On Tuesday night, March 12, The Flash will return for another episode. Titled “Failure is an Orphan,” it is the 16th of season five, as the show is well past its halfway point and nearing the final quarter.
The previous episode, “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd,” focused on a battle between these villains. However, it remade King Shark into somewhat of an anti-hero, as he took on his villainous gorilla and saved Central City from his wrath.
King Shark was originally cured by Cisco Ramon’s metahuman serum. When Grodd went on a rampage, however, Shark chose to revert to his meta persona permanently and encounter this battle. He saved Central City, so all worked out.

The Cicada storyline will drag into episode 16, as its trailer teased the impending defeat of season 5’s big bad. Nora West-Allen said this date is supposed to be Cicada’s defeat, but as seen with these futuristic events on The Flash, they never happen as planned. Maybe this is one case where everything predicted transpires as such, but recent history says otherwise, as the Scarlet Speedster is notorious for altering the future — for better or for worse.
