3. Moon Knight
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of wholesome characters. Even though Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Captain America have done their fair share of killing, they’ve had a bit of a rebrand. Even Tony Stark isn’t the man he used to be. Making the characters more appealing to the family market is great, but they’re missing out on the adult market.
Moon Knight is the guy to step in and be the hero the adults have been waiting for. He’s gritty, ruthless, more serious than Deadpool, and while he was an Avenger in the comics, Moon Knight should never be an Avenger in the movies.
Moon Knight started as a rip off of Batman, or so it seems. There were some major differences, but the similarities are too obvious to acknowledge what he was. It wasn’t until his rebrand in 2006 (Moon Knight “Down Botton”) that he became everything that Batman isn’t. He has split personalities, he kills, and he gets his powers (when he has them) from an Egyptian god. And we don’t even know for sure if that god is real or not. He also has the worst kept secret identity ever.
In his story arc “The Bottom” Moon Knight talked about why he does what he does. Not only is it in service of his god, but because he needs to do the dirty jobs. Plus, he really enjoys hurting people and doesn’t mind getting hurt. Maybe my favorite phrase from Moon Knight was when someone said Moon Knight has never met a punch he wouldn’t rather take than dodge. Who wouldn’t want to watch a movie with a guy like this?
