11. Bucky becomes Captain America

It’s more than likely that Steve Rogers won’t be Captain America after Avengers: Endgame. He could die, need a break, or become an older version of himself like in the comics. Regardless of what happens, it’s not likely that Chris Evans will be an Avenger going forward. This means that the MCU will be in need of a new Captain America. Rogers’ best friend Bucky Barnes is the perfect pick to fill that spot.

In the Captain America series written by Ed Brubaker, Bucky was brought back into the Marvel Universe. After Steve Rogers was shot and thought to be dead (Death of Captain America), Bucky eventually took the mantle of Captain America. Bucky already knew how to use the shield better than anyone alive, had some of the same morals and values that Steve Rogers had, and was actually Steve Rogers’ pick to replace him (he wrote a note to Tony Stark in case he died).

Sam Wilson and Bucky have a TV series coming up and this is the perfect opportunity to put Bucky in place to be the new Captain America. A movie putting Bucky in place sets up the series perfectly. Captain America in the title of a new Marvel project is going to get noticed. Plus, Bucky is a different kind of Captain America. For example, Bucky curses and carries guns. In a world that will be changing, Bucky is the perfect fit to be the new Captain America.
