Marvel’s Runaways season 3 will have more ties to the Marvel Universe

The newly renewed Runaways will have more connections to the larger Marvel Universe in its upcoming third season.
Marvel’s Runaways managed to strike a chord with fans, in part due to its action, heart, humor, and reverence to the source material. With this, it’s no surprise that Hulu opted to renew it for a third season. And while viewers will still get more of the show they love, they may also be getting more from the universe in which its set.
In an official statement (via EW), Runaways co-showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage expressed their excitement and gratitude for the renewal:
"“We are so excited to tell more Runaways stories and are so grateful to Marvel, Hulu, our amazing cast and crew and of course our passionate audience.”"
The pair also stated that the upcoming season would increase the show’s connection to the larger Marvel Universe. They will also continue to follow the lead of original Runaways creators Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona:
"“Season three will be a magical time on Runaways, as we deepen our connection to the Marvel universe. We are honored to continue to play in the sandbox created by Brian K Vaughn and Adrian Alphona.”"
Although the show is confirmed to take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has mostly steered clear of any explicit references to the world at large. Only small Easter eggs, like a quick mention of Wakanda, have been featured. But this new season seems to have the potential to do much more.

In terms of MCU tie-ins, the first thing that probably comes to fans’ minds is fellow Marvel show Cloak and Dagger, which airs on Freeform. Many have speculated that the two shows could crossover at some point in the future. This is mostly due to both series centering on young, super-powered heroes experiencing tough situations. And the idea certainly isn’t out of the question, as the stars of Cloak and Dagger have even expressed interest in a crossover. Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb has also teased the possibility of the characters meeting up.
Based on where the second season concluded, the Runways will have plenty to deal with in their own corner of the MCU. But a visit from some other Marvel heroes (and villains) could be just what the show needs.
