Black Widow solo film reportedly to start filming in June

With Avengers: Endgame looming, not much is known about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but rumor has it that the Black Widow solo film will begin shooting in June.

Recently the wheels have been turning over at Marvel in preparation for a Black Widow stand-alone with casting beginning to take shape and a director being brought on for the project. During a junket for another upcoming comic book film, Hellboy, Den of Geek asked recent addition to the cast of the Black Widow film and Hellboy actor David Harbour revealed that filming is supposed to begin in June.

Harbour went on to talk about how excited he was for the role because it finds the character that he’s playing to a great character, but isn’t allowed to even if the character is someone from the comics or not. This isn’t all that surprising given how secretive Marvel constantly is with pretty much every project they’re working on. The only company that may be more secretive is Lucasfilm with Star Wars.

Harbour also revealed that much of his excitement for the role and the film comes from working with director Cate Shortland. “She is a phenomenally sophisticated filmmaker, really brilliant, really passionate and just a beautiful human being,” Harbour said when he continued to talk about the potential for the film. It’s great to see that Shortland already has her actors on-board with the project and willing to praise her unprompted, which is hopefully a sign of a solid working relationship.

Unsurprisingly at this point though, there has been no confirmation of a release date for the Black Widow stand-alone film, which isn’t surprising given Avengers: Endgame is just around the corner. However, if previous reports are to be believed, Marvel is eyeing a 2020 release date for the film, which would line-up with the film beginning to shoot in June.
