When someone suggests an older actor to play Batman, who comes to mind? Christopher Meloni, Dylan McDermott, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and even Michael Keaton all come up on a regular basis. But Iain Glen? To my knowledge, no one has suggested Iain Glen for Batman until the actor actually got cast in the role. This is why his casting has come as such a surprise to most fans, whether it was welcome or not.

But with so many possible, and possibly better choices for Batman available, was Iain Glen really the best choice? I say no. With Christopher Meloni’s resurgence as the violent hitman Nick Sax in the Syfy series Happy!, and the commercial backing behind the likes of Person of Interest’s Jim Caviezel and Justified’s Timothy Olyphant by fans, there are obvious choices who would have been much better than Iain Glen.

Does that mean that his Batman is going to be lackluster? Absolutely not. Iain Glen will likely be one of the best actors to play Batman that we have ever seen, akin to the likes of Christian Bale and Michael Keaton. Even though many other actors could have been better suited for the role, Glen’s experience in high-profile film and television should give him an added edge for the character, and his look – while not perfect – is similar enough to Bruce Wayne for everyone to fall in love with Titans’ Batman.
