Smallville alum, Tom Welling, is set to appear in season 8 of Arrow next year in an unknown role.

Lucifer co-star and rising director/producer Tom Welling, best known as an actor for the role of Clark Kent on Smallville, has been reported( via Cosmic Book News) to be appearing on Arrow for its eighth and final season. Confirmed by a user on Twitter called @worldofmera, the user posted:

"“TOM WELLING JUST CONFIRMED HE’LL BE IN THE NEXT SEASON OF ARROW!!!!!!!!!”"

The user has since deleted the post, but it has been confirmed by another user in subsequent tweets.

Back in 2017, around the time Welling had a main role on the FOX network show, Lucifer, the actor floated around the idea of coming on The Flash in a special feature with Nuke the Fridge, which indeed could still happen.

For those expecting Welling to reprise his role as his own iteration of Superman, do not be so certain, as the Smallville alum has made it known he would like to expand into other roles. The role Welling is set to play is unknown and it is unclear as to whether it is a recurring or special guest role. Arrow season 8, which will feature the final adventures of the Emerald Archer, will follow this fall’s Crisis on Infinite Earth’s crossover. In the comics, the event, which The CW is adapting for live-action TV from DC Comics, has many characters from different Earths.

Being that the storyline in the comics has featured at least three different versions of Superman belonging to each of their own respective alternate universes, it is not within the realm of impracticality that Welling will not reprise the role that gave him his break for the better part of a decade for the sake of fan service, but brace yourself with the slim chance he chooses not to, which is within his right to do so. Welling has a decent relationship with Warner Bros. Television and may have something up his sleeve that can work for everyone.
