1. The Last Dance
Of all the Avengers, Steve Rogers has been consistently self-less. The only times he’s lost his head has been with regards to his best friend Bucky Barnes. And even then, he has tried his best to atone and make things right.
It therefore seems fitting that Steve’s MCU swan-song sees him finally embrace happiness for himself. After Thanos is defeated, and the victims of the snap are revived, Steve takes it upon himself to return the Infinity Stones to their original resting places. He bids goodbye to his friends, Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson, with the intent of going back in time and reuniting with his lost love, Peggy Carter.
When Steve returns to the present, he’s an old man, content at having lived a happy life with the love of his life. He hands over his shield to the man he trusts most – Sam – and we get to see an inkling of Steve’s life. He and Peggy get that dance he promised her when he hit the ice in Captain America: The First Avenger, and it’s such a wonderful send-off for these two characters. What’s great is that fans know how much both these characters have yearned for each other, so to see Peggy get her Steve back, and for Steve to be with her again to the tune of A Long, Long Time, is the kind of emotional goodbye fans needed.
Avengers: Endgame wasn’t nearly as perfect as it should have been. As an homage to the franchise and to the Avengers as a whole, the film came through, but the need to shock sometimes triumphed over good storytelling. Which moments shocked you the most in Endgame? Let us know in the comments.
