5. The Avengers Assemble

Film: Marvel’s The Avengers

A few seconds isn’t all that long of a time to make an impact, yet The Avengers provided us with a single shot that managed to say more in that short space of time than other films manage to say in two hours.

The 2012 blockbuster may have been the first time that the MCU’s greatest heroes united, but the adventure was anything but smooth-sailing.

Thrown together last-minute by Agent Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D, Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow had to Team with Thor and the Incredible Hulk in a bid to rescue Hawkeye (and the world) from Loki and his fleet of Chituari invaders. As tensions mounted, conflict reigned supreme among the makeshift team, with Captain America constantly clashing with Iron Man over his approach – conflict which Loki gladly capitalized on.

But when the chips were down, they overcame it all to rise up and stand together as the alien fleet invaded Manhattan. In the battlefield, the heroes banded together as Bruce Banner willingly let his inner Hulk out and smashed, clearing some of the wreckage and evening the odds.

With Alan Silvestri’s goosebump-inducing Avengers score receiving its debut play, the Chituari roared with displeasure as we were gifted to a beautiful circular shot of Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Captain America – united as one.

An awe-inspiring shot that has gone down in Hollywood history as one of the all-time greatest, this was the moment that The Avengers were truly born.
