Reverse Flash is set to make a comeback during this season’s finale according to a synopsis released of The Flash show.

While only two episodes left before season 5 comes to a close on The Flash, Team Flash has got to deal with Grace Gibbons/Cicada II (Sarah Carter) who threatens to spread a virus that will target all meta-humans and end their lives including her own. Though, as noted by We Got This Covered, Reverse Flash will make his return during the season finale according to a synopsis. It reads:

"“BARRY FACES OFF WITH REVERSE FLASH – Barry (Grant Gustin) faces off with his oldest, and most formidable nemesis, Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh).”"

Not much to take away from the 22nd episode except that The Flash will confront the Reverse Flash once again. A synopsis for this coming week’s episode, May 7, entitled “The Girl With The Red Lightning” released by The CW Network implies that this is a lot more Cicada–centric. Set photos have been released courtesy off The CW (h/t ComicBookMovie.com). They show Barry (Gustin), Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer) carrying out an investigation. Photos also depict Harrison “Sherloque” Wells (Cavanagh) with a librarian, Renee Adler (Kimberley Williams-Paisley). Images also show Nora with a version of the Cerebral Inhibitor.

Being the first time Barry and Team Flash had to deal with multiple villains back-to-back in a singular season, Cicada II will probably be dealt with the most in the second to last episode. The question is what is Reverse Flash’s ultimate goal?

As a call back explaining why The Man in the Yellow Suit is the real MVP of this season, it was suggested that Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash could actually be using Cicada as a vital chess piece, namely a rook. In this case, the second Cicada is a bishop in Thawne’s game of chess he probably never saw coming.

Could Thawne actually be the cause of this year’s forthcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths? It could be possible, but he will be coming out of the prison unscathed. One thing is for sure is that Thawne used Nora to get rid of Cicada, so to get rid of the competition. Though what will his legacy be?
