The Flash star Jessica Parker Kennedy wants Buffy lead

The Flash star Jessica Parker Kennedy wants the lead role on the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is in store for a reboot, or follow-up of some kind for TV. No word on its progress has surfaced except that it is happening and Joss Whedon will be involved. Other than that, we don’t know what it will be like or who Whedon has in mind to star.

That isn’t stopping some from throwing their own name out there. Jessica Parker Kennedy, star on this season of The CW’s DC drama The Flash, passionately wants to be the new Buffy more than anything, she told The Tomorrow Show recently.

In fact, she already informed her agent and wants to tell the world:

"“I have called. I’ve made that call. I’m telling the world, I’ve made that call, because I just would love that so, so, so much.”"

She added she would audition over and over, even if she had to crawl:

"“I hope I get to audition for it as many times as possible, even if I need to crawl my way into that audition room…”"

Kennedy considers herself a “super fan” and sees Buffy, which motivates the actress day-to-day, as her “spirit animal.” Playing Nora gives her the opportunity to channel that spirit and find moments where Nora parallels Buffy:

"“I’m a super fan. Yeah, absolutely. Like, under my breath on The Flash, when something cool would happen to Nora, I was too embarrassed to say it out loud, but under my breath, I would be like, ‘Buffy!’"

Whedon reportedly is looking for an African-American lead this time around. Parker Kennedy is biracial so she could fit that bill. At 34, however, she might be older than he is looking for although she can pass for younger.

Buffy began as a supernatural primetime soap set in high school but followed the Slayer into adulthood with her Scooby Gang of friends after three seasons. The new incarnation could skip the growing pains and cliques of public schooling altogether if someone like Kennedy gets the role.

A Canadian, Jessica Parker Kennedy has been acting for a number of years. Costarring as Nora West-Allen on The Flash, Iris and Barry’s daughter from the future, Kennedy also has parts in Starz’s Black Sails, Smallville, and CW’s short-lived drama The Secret Circle to her credit.

Buffy had its finale in 2002 after seven seasons, but the saga continued with subsequent “seasons” in comic book form. Spinoff Angel followed suit.

The Flash airs Tuesday nights on The CW.
