Against all odds, Felicity and Earth-2 Laurel, aka Black Siren, have become one of Arrow’s most entertaining, heartwarming and powerful dynamic duos.

Earth-2 Laurel Lance has certainly come a long way since her debut as the callous, villainous Black Siren in Arrow’s fifth season. Season six started her on the path to redemption and ignited “Green Arrow: Civil War” as the O.G.s defended her, while the newbies sought revenge on behalf of Dinah’s murdered boyfriend.

It wasn’t until this current season, though, that she really started to turn her life around in honor of Quentin, after he sacrificed himself for her. Picking up where Quentin left off, Felicity helped Laurel stay on the right path; but, quite interestingly, Laurel also did the same for Felicity. Here’s a look at how Felicity and Laurel’s friendship became a highlight of Arrow‘s seventh season.

1. It was unexpected

Throughout the season, members of Team Arrow have expressed surprise upon learning Felicity and Laurel are friends. And who can blame them? It was a curious pairing, until it started to make perfect sense.

While Felicity and Laurel were not enemies at the start of this season, they could hardly have been called friends. In fact, as can be seen below, the only reason Felicity first reached out to Laurel in episode four was not to hang out but rather to get her help extracting information from (i.e. torturing) an associate of Ricardo Diaz.

Much to Felicity’s surprise, the team-up actually did turn into a bonding session, though, as Laurel stopped Felicity from crossing a line and giving into fear and anger. Knowing what it feels like to live with the pain and regret of going too far, Laurel was determined to walk Felicity back from the edge, just as she wished someone had done for her.
