Drunken Thor

On top of everything that happened to Thor between Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Endgame, the Odinson needed a win. That win never happened. Thanos’ snap seemed to be permanent, and Thor felt terrible for not killing him when he had the chance. Even cutting Thanos’ head off wasn’t enough to make him feel better. This turned Thor into a recluse and a drunk, so much so that he developed a beer belly. Thor may not have gotten fat in the comics, but there were parts of this movie that came right out of period of time for Thor after Original Sin.

Comic book moment

During Original Sin, Nick Fury whispered to Thor that Gorr was right. This was a mention to when Gorr the God Butcher told Thor that the mortal didn’t need him. Since Nick Fury is a mortal, this made Thor question who he was. This doubt made him unworthy to wield his hammer. In Avengers: Endgame, Thor is still worthy of Mjolnir but, after Fury’s whisper, Thor turned into a drunk.

Years after Thor became unworthy, he spent most of his time feeling sorry for himself and getting drunk. He felt that since he wasn’t worthy, what else was there for him? He was even jealous that Mjolnir did things for Jane Foster and not him. Watching Thor be heavily dependent on alcohol was reminiscent of his time in Original Sin.
