Batwoman gets series order from The CW — we’re here for it

When The CW needs a dark butt-kicking hero to step up in the absence of Green Arrow, it’s Batwoman who will come to the rescue in a new series.

The days of The CW’s Arrow are coming to an end, with Stephen Amell hanging up the hoodie after season eight. The grandfather of the Arrowverse is leaving behind some huge non-powered hero shoes to fill. And it’s Batwoman who will step up in his place, sort of.

According to THR, The CW has ordered Batwoman to series. That’s right, the protector of Gotham City, Kate Kane, played by Ruby Rose, will officially become a staple in the Arrowverse. Not only will she protect Gotham, but she’ll do so as the first gay lead character:

"“Batwoman will make TV history with the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series. The project has had a charmed road to the screen.”"

Unlike Black Lightning and Supergirl, Batwoman exists in the same earth as Arrow. Batwoman made her live-action debut on the epic Elseworlds crossover. However, the series’ pilot episode is expected to predate the aforementioned crossover.

The cast includes Nicole Kang as Kate’s stepsister, Mary Hamilton, Dougray Scott as Kate’s father Jacob Kane, and Camrus Jordan as Luke Fox. As far as the big bad, that role has gone to Rachel Skarsten who will play Alice, the show’s main villain and leader of the Wonderland Gang.

Gotham City is without its protector, and Kate Kane steps up in his absence. We learned during the crossover that Batman hasn’t been around for sometime. And don’t expect to see Batman any time soon.

Kate claimed she was the cousin of Bruce Wayne, who left Gotham. She took over Wayne Towers with plans to turn it into a real-estate developmental firm. In the comics, this isn’t the case.

Kate was former military turned party girl without direction. That was until she came face to face with the Caped Crusader. From that point on, she found her purpose. Thus, Batwoman was born. Maybe we’ll see who Kate really is during the pilot episode. Batwoman  premieres during the fall of 2019.
