11. Heimdall
Movie it happened in: Avengers: Infinity War
Why it was so heartbreaking If it wasn’t for Heimdall, Bruce Banner wouldn’t have escaped the ship to pass on the message of Thanos being around. Heimdall sacrificed his life to make sure others were safe, something he didn’t have to do, but did it because he knew that he was right.
Idris Elba’s Heimdall was one of the best parts of the Thor movies. He was the gatekeeper and always there to help our heroes. He would do what it took to keep Asgard safe. And it was Idris Elba. Of course, we were going to love the socks off him!
There was hope that he would survive and help everyone escape. In the end, he only got a few away – although I think we can assume he got Valkyrie and others away when Thanos initially killed half the ship. He didn’t quite manage everything he would have liked to do, but it was a worthy effort.

It was a death that would throw Thor over the edge. During the war against Hela, he’d already lost his three best friends – they don’t make it to this list because they deserved a much bigger death in the movie considering the roles they played in the first two movies! – and now he was losing Heimdall and Loki at the same time.
Seeing Thor’s reaction broke our hearts. He just wanted it all to be over. At first, he focused on revenge. When he got that but couldn’t reverse everything that happened, he completely broke. He became nothing like we knew and it showed just how hard he took Heimdall and Loki’s deaths.
